A 4.6-magnitude earthquake hit Pakistan on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 18:59:30 IST, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The tremor occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicenter located at latitude 30.33° N and longitude 66.43° E. The quake was reportedly felt in nearby areas, though no immediate reports of major damage or casualties have emerged.

This is the second earthquake in Pakistan this week. On October 2, a 3.2-magnitude quake struck near Karachi, seven kilometers northwest of Malir, also at a depth of 10 km, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Earlier, on September 16, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake was recorded at a deeper 60 km below the surface.

Pakistan is among the most earthquake-prone countries in the world due to its location at the collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. This geological positioning makes the region highly susceptible to seismic activity. High-risk areas include Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan, which lie near major fault lines like the Main Central Thrust, while Punjab and even Sindh remain vulnerable due to their tectonic setting.

One of the country’s most devastating earthquakes was the 1945 Balochistan quake, which measured 8.1 in magnitude. The northward push of the Indian plate into the Eurasian plate continues to trigger frequent tremors across the region.
