Her comment read, “And I’ll stand behind this. Be kind, now more than ever.”Her post, shared just hours after Kirk was shot dead in front of thousands at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, sparked a wave of criticism online. The Carolina Panthers terminated football communications coordinator Charlie Rock, MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd was fired and Ohio judge Ted Berry was removed from the Joe Burrow Foundation board. A New York school officer, Tanisha Blanche, was also dismissed after her comments were deemed to glorify violence.Meanwhile, some public figures and organizations have chosen to honor Kirk’s memory. The New York Yankees held a moment of silence before a game, and the Jets displayed photos of Kirk and his family on their videoboard. Tyler Robinson, 22, has been identified as Kirk’s alleged assassin and is expected to be charged with aggravated murder. Officials believe Robinson acted alone. In Utah, aggravated murder carries the possibility of the death penalty if sought by the prosecution.
