Kash Patel vs Cory Booker: ‘You made our country less safe’, sparks fly in fiery debate – Watch

FBI Director Kash Patel faced fierce criticism during a heated Senate oversight hearing as Democratic Senator Cory Booker accused him of undermining the nation’s premier law enforcement agency. The exchange turned into one of the sharpest clashes of Patel’s tenure, with Brooks unleashing a blistering assessment of the FBI under his leadership and Patel firing back with a defence rooted in statistics and results.“You are not denying that FBI agents who are in the task force that fight against Russian oligarchs have not been reassigned,” Brooks charged. He accused Patel of gutting “the Bureau of Institutional Knowledge and Expertise” by pushing out seasoned officials, many with decades of service, and lowering hiring standards to replace them. Brooks claimed 20 per cent of agents were now doing “low level immigration enforcement” rather than focusing on core missions, and that task forces tackling election interference and corruption had been disbanded.“I believe you have made our country weaker and less safe,” Brooks said. “You’ve gutted the Bureau of Institutional Knowledge and Expertise… purging thousands of serious law enforcement officials who spent their careers keeping us safe. Only to lower hiring standards in order to find anyone to replace them. And shockingly, you admitted in this hearing to Senator Coons that it would take 14 years to fill the vacancies at your agency.”Brooks went further, linking Patel’s actions to wider threats. “Who benefits from this? Well, corrupt people benefit from it. Criminals benefit from it. Vladimir Putin benefits from it. And it really makes me wonder who you’re looking out for. It makes me think we can’t trust you as a nation,” he said, accusing Patel of breaking promises to release the Epstein files and mismanaging information on a major assassination investigation.Patel did not hold back in his response. “That rant of false information does not bring this country together,” he said. As Booker tried to cut in, Patel shot back: “It’s my time, not yours.” Booker, visibly angry, retorted: “You don’t tell me my time is over. The people of New Jersey tell me what my time is. You can’t lecture me. You can’t tell me my time over. I am not afraid of you. I’m not afraid of you.”Once given the floor, Patel delivered a detailed defence, arguing that the numbers spoke for themselves. “If the FBI under my seven-month leadership were failing this administration in this country, why do we have 23,000 violent felons arrested this year alone? … Why have we found 1,500 child predators and arrested them? Why have we found and identified 4,700 children? … How is it that we have counterintelligence arrests already this year exceeding the numbers from the entirety of last year?”
