Indian equity markets will observe three trading holidays in October 2025 in addition to the regular weekends, bringing the total number of market holidays during the month to 11.

According to the official holiday calendar released by the NSE and BSE, trading across equity, commodity, and currency segments will remain suspended on three occasions — October 2, October 21, and October 22.

The first market holiday falls on October 2, marking Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti as well as Dussehra. Trading will again pause on October 21 for Diwali Laxmi Pujan, followed by October 22 for Balipratipada, which is also part of the Diwali festivities. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and the currency derivatives segment will follow the same holiday schedule and remain closed on these three days.

In keeping with tradition, a special Muhurat trading session will be held on Diwali. Both NSE and BSE, in circulars dated September 22, announced that the one-hour trading window will take place on October 21 from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, with investors allowed to modify their trades until 2:55 pm. The exchanges also clarified that all trades executed during this symbolic session — considered auspicious for new investments — will be subject to regular settlement obligations.

Apart from the October holidays, markets will also remain closed on November 5 for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev and on December 25 for Christmas.
