'My grandfather didn't complain about America': Nikki Haley's son clashes with Mehdi Hasan on immigration
Nalin Haley and Mehdi Hasan’s clash on immigrants goes viral.

Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley’s son Nalin Haley, who has gained social media prominence because of his hot takes on a variety of subjects, locked horns with journalist Mehdi Hasan on the issue of immigration. Both Hasan and Haley have their roots in other countries, but they went on to prove their excellence on deciding who’s more American. The social media clash started with Nalin commenting on a post that said Walmart has paused its job offers to candidates requiring H-1B visas. This is because of the $100,000 fee that the Trump administration mandated making hiring H-1Bs difficult. Nalin, a staunch opposer of H-1B, said people should buy from businesses that hire Americans. “I’m aware immigration law is federal but individual states should also be allowed to deny H-1B visa workers in their states,” Nalin wrote. The post drew flak as he was told that he was not an American in the first place to spew venom on H-1B. “It’s irresponsible to let in immigrants when companies already aren’t hiring, AI is replacing many jobs, and the economy is fragile. The last thing we need is foreigners taking away jobs Americans can do,” Nalin said.

Enter Mehdi Hasan who drags Nikki Haley’s dead father to debate

Journalist Mehdi Hasan reacted to Nalin’s H-1B hatred despite having a prominent Indian origin and wrote: “Nalin’s grandfather, Ajit Singh Randhawa, the late father of Nikki Haley, a Sikh immigrant from India, had to confront similar bogus anti-immigrant arguments from the right when he moved to the US for work in 1969.”Nalin said the situation has changed as it’s not 1969 anymore. And then attacked Hasan and called for his deportation. “This ain’t 1969 bud. And you should be denaturalized. All you do is complain about America anyway,” Nalin wrote.Mehdi Hasan was undeterred and said: “Imagine if someone had said that about your grandfather. Shameful.”‘My grandfather didn’t complain about America,” Nalin gave it back. “But your mom did,” Mehdi Hasan wrote, sharing from Nikki Haley’s book on her experience of growing up in the US with neighbors feeling uncomfortable by them.“Explaining their struggles back then ≠ complaining. In her same book she mentions that her and my grandparents firmly believed that the US is the greatest country on earth. America has given you so many opportunities and you use them to constantly trash it while making A LOT of money doing it. Why the hell are you here if all you do is complain and want to change America? Denaturalized isn’t enough, anyone with this mindset should be deported. Including you,” Nalin Haley replied.Journalist Mehdi Hasan was born in the UK to Indian-origin parents and is now a US citizen. Nalin Haley has Indian roots from his mother’s side and Nikki Haley was born to immigrant Punjabi parents in South Carolina.
