Visiting Pakistan Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman General Sahir Shamshad Mirza called on Bangladesh chief adviser Muhammad Yunus and discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, including in areas of “trade, connectivity and defence”. Emphasising “shared historical, cultural and people-to-people ties” between the two countries, Mirza expressed Pakistan’s desire to strengthen cooperation in multiple sectors, said Yunus’ press wing on Sunday. The two sides expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, and Mirza noted the vast potential for expanding trade, connectivity and investment between the two nations. “Our two countries will support each other,” he said, adding that a two-way shipping route between Karachi and Chittagong has begun operations, while a Dhaka-Karachi air route is likely to open within a few months. The press wing said both sides also underscored the need to de-escalate tensions in West Asia and Europe.
