Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Sivakumar on Monday said that the Congress party would find it difficult to succeed in the state without the backing of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The Deputy Chief Minister called Siddaramaiah as a seasoned politician whose support is essential not just for the 2028 elections but for the overall success of the Congress government in Karnataka.

Speaking to CNN-News18, Shivakumar said, “We need the Chief Minister. We need his support. If health permits, we need him for the future as well. He has served as Deputy CM, Leader of the Opposition, and Chief Minister. Without his blessing and support, Congress will find it difficult.”

Shivakumar further noted that he stands by whatever the party high command decides regarding Siddaramaiah’s role.

Shivakumar also addressed criticisms from Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw over Bengaluru’s infrastructure.

“They were also tweeting. I was tough with them. I have shared my problems with them. I welcome criticism but we should see what is possible and what is not possible,” he said.

He highlighted that BJP opposes many initiatives and has failed to provide land for city projects. “I have given proposal to PM personally for Bengaluru. I don’t know why they are not giving. Without Bengaluru, we can’t see India in great light,” he added.

On efforts to improve the city’s roads, Shivakumar said more than 10,000 potholes have been filled, though continued rains keep creating new ones. He called maintaining Bengaluru’s infrastructure as a “never-ending task” and defended the government’s handling of the situation.
