Congress leader Rahul Gandhi participated in a traditional fish-catching ritual in Bihar’s Begusarai, joined by local fishermen and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) leader Mukesh Sahani, who is the deputy Chief Ministerial face of the opposition Mahagathbandhan alliance.

The Congress leader, campaigning in Bihar with four days to go for the first phase of the Assembly elections, jumped into a pond and participated in the traditional practice of catching fish using hands and nets. Gandhi, dressed in a white T-shirt and black trousers, jumped into the pond from a boat and was also seen swimming.

The leaders, joined by local fisherman, cast a net to catch fish. Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar and others were also present on the occasion. Gandhi also interacted with the fishermen and discussed the challenges related to their work.

“It felt great to meet the fishermen community in Begusarai, Bihar, today with Mr Mukesh Sahni ji, the president of VIP party. Their work is as interesting as the problems and struggles associated with it are serious. However, their hard work, passion, and deep understanding of the business in every situation is inspiring,” Gandhi said on X.

… pic.twitter.com/8EecHux9m7

The INDIA bloc has made several promises to improve the lives of fishermen in Bihar, including financial aid of Rs 5,000 to every family during the three-month lean period, subsidy schemes and rejuvenation of rivers and ponds.

‘Tell Him To Do Yoga Asanas’

Addressing a rally in Begusarai, Gandhi criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that he was being “controlled” by industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani. He also said that the PM will do anything for votes.

“Tell him to do two to three yoga asanas on the stage, he will do a few asanas,” he said. He also repeated his claim that Operation Sindoor was suspended after pressure from the United States.

“Operation Sindoor happened, Donald Trump’s phone comes, Modi ji, who says they have a 56 inch chest gets scared as Donald Trump says to shut this Sindoor, and within two days PM Modi stopped it. The truth is that Narendra Modi is not only afraid of the US president, but he is also being controlled by people like Adani-Ambani,” the Congress leader said.

He said that if the Mahagathbandhan is voted to power, they will set up a university in par with the Nalanda University and promised to make Bihar a hub for international students too.

Bihar will go for two-phased Assembly elections from November 6, with the results to be declared on November 14.
