National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah on Saturday claimed that ‘Operation Sindoor’, India’s precision strikes at terror camps in Pakistan in response to the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack, did not yield any positive outcome and only resulted in loss of lives.

“I hope no such thing (Operation Sindoor) will happen. Nothing came out of it. Our 18 people died. Our borders were compromised,” he said as quoted by news agency ANI. He added that repeating such operations would only harm both nations and the fragile peace along the Line of Control.

“I hope both nations improve their relations. That is the only way,” he said, warning that hostility and military posturing cannot serve long-term national interests.

Invoking former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s famous line on India-Pakistan ties, Abdullah said, “I want to repeat what Vajpayee Ji said — friends can be changed, but neighbours cannot.” He urged New Delhi and Islamabad to resume dialogue and work towards lasting peace.

His comments came after an explosion at a police station in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nowgam claimed at least nine lives and left 29 others injured. The explosion took place while a police team, accompanied by a magistrate and forensic experts, was examining explosive materials linked to the Red Fort blast investigation. These explosives had been recovered as part of the probe into the Faridabad terror module in connection with the Delhi attack.

The former Chief Minister called for a thorough and independent investigation into the Nowgam police station blast, saying that “mistakes” in the initial handling of the explosive may have contributed to the tragedy that claimed nine lives and damaged multiple residential structures.

Abdullah’s remarks came after the Centre recognised the blast near Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10 as a “terror attack” and warned of strict action against the perpetrators of the barbaric crime.

“The Cabinet unequivocally condemns this dastardly and cowardly act that has led to the loss of innocent lives. The Cabinet reiterates India’s unwavering commitment to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” a resolution passed by the cabinet read.

A high-intensity explosive device detonated inside a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, killing 12 people and injuring dozens of others. Several suspects, including doctors from Haryana’s Al-Falah University, have been taken into custody for interrogation over their alleged links to a white-collar terror module involving the Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

Operation Sindoor

India launched “precision strikes” under Operation Sindoor on nine terror targets in Pakistan and PoK following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The strikes killed over 100 terrorists, including 10 family members of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar and four close aides.

Targets included Jaish’s Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, Sarjal camp in Tehra Kalan, Markaz Abbas in Kotli, and the Syedna Bilal camp in Muzaffarabad. Lashkar’s strongholds — Markaz Taiba in Murdike, Markaz Ahle Hadith in Barnala, and Shwawai Nalla camp in Muzaffarabad — were also hit. Hizbul Mujahideen’s facilities at Makaz Raheel Shahid in Kotli and Mehmoona Joya in Sialkot were among those targeted.

The operation sparked four days of cross-border fighting involving fighter jets, missiles and artillery.
