With the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) set to form the government in Bihar after a landslide win, there is now speculation over the composition.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-Janata Dal United’s (BJP-JDU) alliance is likely to adopt the same formula as ticket distribution, said sources. Nitish Kumar’s JDU may get the CM post, while the BJP and Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) one deputy CM each.

During the ticket distribution, for every MP, an NDA partner was given five-six assembly seats. So, it is likely that the same formula may be in place for cabinet berths. For instance, with 84 MLAs, the JDU could now get 14 berths.

The NDA’s ‘tsunami’ swept away the opposition Mahagathbandhan in Bihar, with the BJP emerging as the single-largest party. In the NDA, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 89 seats, Janata Dal (United) won 85, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (LJPRV) won 19, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAMS) won five, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha won four seats.

When is the swearing-in likely?

News18 had, citing sources, earlier reported how the process of forming the new government in Bihar has gained momentum, with the swearing-in ceremony expected in the next three to four days.

However, the exact timing and the date, they said, are being worked out, with discussions underway to finalise an “auspicious” day for the oath-taking.

All partners in the alliance are expected to be accommodated in proportion to the number of seats they have won, ensuring a balanced power-sharing arrangement in the new government.

Following these internal consultations, the NDA will convene a joint legislative party meeting, where the alliance’s legislative party leader will be formally chosen. That leader will then stake a claim to form the next government in Bihar.

Who all met Nitish Kumar?

On Saturday, leaders of the NDA visited 1, Anne Marg, the official residence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the longest-serving incumbent, who heads the JD(U).

Visitors included Union minister Chirag Paswan. “I have congratulated Nitish Kumar ji on the victory. The NDA’s win puts paid to the opposition’s false narrative that there has been a rift between the two of us. Even during the campaign, the CM canvassed in seats where our candidate was contesting. We reciprocated the gesture and supported the JD(U) candidate in Alauli, which has been our home turf,” Paswan told reporters.

The JD(U) president, who would turn 75 in a few months from now, has not been enjoying robust health for some time, though the polls saw him carrying out a dogged campaign.

Another notable visitor to the chief minister’s residence was Ram Kripal Yadav, a BJP leader and former Union minister whose political career has been resurrected with a victory from Danapur assembly seat.
