As the Bihar Assembly election results brought jubilation to the NDA camp and disappointment to the Mahagathbandhan, Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani said that the NDA won the election as it “openly gave money to women,” which, he said, influenced voting patterns.

Sahani said, “10,000 mein kya milta hai? 10,000 mein Bihar sarkar milti hai.” (“What do you get for Rs 10,000? You get the Bihar government.”)

Sahani, reacting to the Mahagathbandhan’s below-expectation performance, said the verdict did not reflect the true mandate of the people. “In elections, you either win or lose. The Mahagathbandhan did not get the success it was supposed to. The NDA emerged victorious, and I congratulate them,” he said as quoted by news agency ANI. He then added sharply, “But they have not got the people’s mandate. They have won because of money.”

While referring to Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, under which Rs 10,000 each was transferred to the bank accounts of women in the state, Sahani claimed the NDA “openly gave money to women,” which, he said, influenced voting patterns. “The youth supported us, but women — who form a major part of the electorate — voted for the NDA,” he said.

Despite the setback, Sahani insisted he would continue the fight to protect democracy. “We will continue our battle for democracy. Now the government must fulfil the promises it made to ‘Jeevika Didi’. This is everyone’s loss, just as it would have been everyone’s victory had we won,” he said.

Bihar Poll Results

The ruling NDA decimated the Mahagathbandhan, crossing the 200-seat mark in the 243-member assembly. The BJP and JD(U) together recorded an 85% strike rate in the 101 seats each contested. With the final tally placing the NDA at 202 seats and the Opposition alliance reduced to just 34, the mandate stands out as one of the most emphatic the state has witnessed in more than a decade.

The outcome dealt a severe blow to Jan Suraaj Party, which failed to win a single seat despite high expectations and Kishor’s own bold claims that the JD(U) would struggle to surpass 25 seats.

Within the ruling coalition, the BJP led the charge with 89 seats, followed closely by the JD(U) at 85. Strong performances by allies — LJP(RV) with 19 seats, HAM with 5, RLM with 4, along with several smaller partners — cemented the NDA’s dominance across the state.

In sharp contrast, the Mahagathbandhan crumbled under the wave. The RJD managed just 25 seats, the Congress collapsed to 6, and the Left parties together secured only 3. The BSP and IIP picked up one seat each.
