Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday targeted AIADMK for supporting Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Addressing a book release event in Chennai, Stalin said, “BJP has got a ‘slave’ in AIADMK to file cases in favour of SIR.”

The ruling DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) party is opposing SIR and also filed petitions in the Supreme Court and Madras High Court against the process. DMK and its allies call SIR arbitrary and a potential attempt to disenfranchise genuine voters, particularly from minority communities and Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes.

Meanwhile, the main opposition party, AIADMK, supports the process, stating that it is necessary to weed out fake and duplicate voters from the list.

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister also flagged off a cyclothon in Chennai on Thursday and said the younger generation is more eco-conscious and will become responsible citizens.

“Compared to our generation, the next generation will be even more vigilant when it comes to protecting nature, and there is strong hope in that,” Udhayanidhi Stalin was quoted as saying by PTI.

“Many elders, without a sense of responsibility, throw garbage on the roads or dump waste into canals, but children will never do such wrong things,” he added.
