Emergency services rescued a 15-year-old boy from a crane in Jerusalem on Monday after he was found hanging around 300 meters above the ground on a small platform. The teenager reportedly climbed the crane at around midnight because he wanted to “see the view,” according to a statement by Israel’s Fire and Rescue Service. He remained suspended for an estimated seven to nine hours before being safely brought down, according to Times of Israel. Rescuers described the operation as highly complex due to the height and the challenging angle of the crane. Fire and Rescue Service commander Shai Nehemiah said, “This is a very complex rescue, both due to the great height and the challenging and problematic angle at which the crane is positioned. The firefighters are acting with judgment and professionalism to build a rope system that will allow safe access to the teenager and his rescue.”The video of firefighters rescuing the teen went viral on social media. In it, the boy, pictured without shoes on a narrow platform just above the crane’s hook, was fitted with a helmet and harness and carefully lowered to the ground by a first responder using a pulley system. He was then transferred to medical services for treatment. The Magen David Adom ambulance service reported that the boy suffered light abrasions and dehydration. He was taken to Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem for further care but was believed to be in good condition.Authorities have said it is unclear why the teen climbed the crane, though officials’ initial assessment indicated it was not a suicide attempt.
