American influencer Pamela Smith who moved out of US out of her hatred for President Donald Trump and decided to settle in Canada has now been rejected by Canada as well. Now the influencer, her husband and three children are considering moving to Portugal after Canada told them that they are ineligible for permanent residency as they are old. But Smith has no grudge against Canada as she said Canada is looking out for their people. “I don’t think they like people over 40,” said Smith. Canada decided to make rules stricter for permanent residency so that housing and social supports are not burdened.Smith said she would apply for an entrepreneur work permit to extend their stay in Canada but if they are not granted, they will have to leave the country when their tourist visas expire at the end of March 2026. The Smith family used to live in Montana but faced racist threats as they are a black family. “Racism is so out-in-the-open in the US — (Trump) is emboldening them,” said Smith. Compared to Montana, Calgary in Canada has been very welcoming to them. When they rented a home in Calgart, neighbors of Indian descent welcomed them gifting them a snow shovel, she said. “Canada’s not perfect but, at the end of the day, it’s a beautiful country,” the influencer said adding that she would never want her kids to go to school in America. But she didn’t hide her disappointment over Canada’s decision. “Why Canada? A nurse, founder of a healthcare company (19 years), and President/director of an Education center (7 years), who scored high on the English exam and has proof of funds to support my family while here, is not eligible to be in the Express Entry pool? Ageism? I can’t help that I’m over 40,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
