Amid the tussle over the Karnataka Chief Minister post, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is clinging to the hope that his leader “won’t let him down”, according to a media report.
Shivakumar, who is currently representing Karnataka at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, said, “My leaders will take a call. It is not a matter to be discussed with the media; it is a behind-the-scenes discussion. I am always positive, I live on hope, see hard work will always pay, I fully believe in it, I think my leader will definitely not let me down,” as quoted by NDTV.
The Congress MLA was further questioned about the rumour that he doesn’t have enough MLAs in his camp – a claim he rejected outright.
“Who said this? I have 140, I am the president of the party (in Karnataka). There is nothing to be decided on numbers; all of us work as a team. Siddaramaiah has 140, I have 140. Both of us sat and discussed. We have left it to the leadership, and we will go by the leadership,” the outlet quoted Shivakumar as saying.
With the Congress emerging victorious in the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2025, there was a tough competition between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar for the Chief Minister’s post. However, as media reports suggest, Sidda became the party’s choice due to his clean image and widespread support across the state.
DK Shivakumar, on the other hand, was under investigation in connection with a money laundering case. According to media reports, the tussle between the two leaders was settled with a “rotational Chief Minister formula”, under which Shivakumar was promised that he would be made Karnataka’s CM after two-and-a-half years.
Notably, the Congress high command has never officially confirmed the same.
On Trump’s speech
Speaking about US President Donald Trump’s speech at Davos, the Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister said that his knowledge is “amazing”, as reported by NDTV.
“There are plus and minus, that is a different case, but as a leader, we have to acknowledge his capability. We may have a difference of opinion”, he said.
