With only a few months left for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay made a strong political pitch on Sunday, calling for the removal of the DMK government from power.

Sending a strong message to his supporters amid the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioning and fallout over his upcoming film, Vijay said both major Dravidian parties had surrendered to the BJP, either openly or indirectly. “The AIADMK has directly surrendered to the BJP, and the DMK has indirectly surrendered to the BJP. We do not bow down to any pressure. Does this face look like it would succumb to pressure?” he asked.

Vijay said his party is at a crucial stage in its political journey. He insisted that TVK was not under any pressure and would not give in to pressure politics. At the same time, he acknowledged that attempts were being made to influence the party.

“We are at a decisive point in our political journey. TVK is under no pressure. There is no scope for pressure politics. Is there pressure? Yes, there is pressure,” Vijay said, stressing that his party would stand firm despite challenges.

Taking a sharp swipe at the ruling DMK and the opposition AIADMK, Vijay repeated his charge that both parties had compromised their stand. He said the AIADMK had openly aligned itself with the BJP, while the DMK had done so indirectly.

According to Vijay, this had created a sense of disappointment among the people. He claimed that many voters were quietly looking for an alternative leadership that would stand independent and true to its principles.

Vijay said people had shown faith in TVK and had responded warmly to the party. He referred to growing public support and said people had correctly understood TVK’s position in state politics.

“There are a lot of speculations about alliances. The people have rightly appreciated TVK and showered us with love. “It is not just an election, but a democratic war. You are my commandos who will fight this war,” he said.

Raising a question to his supporters, Vijay said TVK had a responsibility to remain loyal to the trust placed in it. “Shouldn’t the TVK stay true and committed to the people?” he asked, hinting that the party would take its decisions keeping public faith in mind.

As the election draws closer, Vijay’s remarks underline TVK’s attempt to position itself as an independent political force challenging both the DMK and AIADMK.
