Vishal vs. Lyca legal battle: Madras High Court to decide on actor’s extension request on February 10
Madras High Court will decide on February 10 if actor Vishal gets more time to deposit Rs 10 crore in his legal battle with Lyca Productions. Vishal’s lawyer cited financial difficulties, including GST issues, for his inability to pay the sum. Lyca Productions has been asked to respond to Vishal’s extension plea.

The controversy surrounding the non-payment of dues between actor Vishal and Lyca Productions has been scheduled for a hearing at the Madras High Court on February 10. The primary legal issue currently under debate is whether the Madras High Court will grant actor Vishal an extension on the deadline to deposit Rs.10 crore as part of his ongoing litigation with Lyca Productions. The court has ordered Lyca Productions to respond to this petition. In the last hearing, a single-judge bench of the Madras High Court directed the actor and film producer, Vishal, to pay an amount of Rs 21.29 crore to Lyca, along with a 30% interest. Vishal opposed the directive, and a division bench gave a stay on the order. However, the bench put a condition on it, asking that he deposit the sum of Rs 10 crore in court. The court-mandated deposit has become a focal point of the litigation, following Vishal’s formal request for additional time to settle the Rs.10 crore sum.

Vishal’s request for time

A report by News18 says that Vishal made a plea in front of the judges to give him six weeks’ time so that he can pay the Rs 10 crore. The case was again brought up in front the judges C.V. Karthikeyan and Kumaresh Babu. Vishal’s lawyer told the court that the actor is facing financial difficulties, including GST-related issues and other monetary pressures. Because of these problems, Vishal is not in a position to arrange such a large amount immediately. The lawyer requested the court to grant at least six weeks’ time to make the deposit. This argument became the central point of the hearing, as the court had carefully considered the financial situation presented by Vishal’s side.

The court has asked Lyca Productions to respond before making a decision

The High Court has decided to seek Lyca Productions’ response to Vishal’s request. The Madras High Court has opted for a balanced approach, choosing to rule on Vishal’s extension only after hearing Lyca’s counter-argument. This ‘extra time’ issue is now the most significant hurdle in a long legal journey. For the actor, it’s a plea for survival; for the production house, it’s a chance to hold their ground.

The February 10 hearing will be crucial

The case has been adjourned to the next hearing, scheduled for February 10. On February 10, Lyca Productions’ formal response will determine if actor Vishal is granted a reprieve on his Rs. 10 crore payment. The next court date will serve as a turning point for the entire controversy.
