The Bharatiya Janata Party has responded to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s remark that “BJP’s only God is Owaisi, they turn him into Aladdin’s magic lamp for votes”.
In an exclusive conversation, Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao told News18, “Revanth Reddy uses Modi’s name more than we do. Modi has become God for Revanth Reddy.”
He also said that the Congress falsely claims PM Modi has not contributed to Telangana, which is why they highlight the BJP’s achievements in the state using the Prime Minister’s name.
The Congress, including the Chief Minister, alleges that in every election the BJP uses Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name. Even for a municipal election, why drag the Prime Minister? Is the BJP so weak that it needs to use the PM’s name to campaign?
It is not us who use the Prime Minister’s name. Every time, the Congress lies to the people, saying Modi is not giving Telangana anything and that the Prime Minister has not done anything for the state. We need to state the facts of what our honourable and beloved Prime Minister has given to Telangana. More than us, it is Revanth Reddy who uses Modi’s name. Modi has almost become a god for Revanth Reddy.
What are the chances of the BJP in this municipal election?
We feel and expect a very good number of seats. There are 2,996 wards, and the BJP hopes to win the maximum number of seats. We will push the BRS to third place and will be equal to the Congress party. That is why both the BRS and the Congress fear us.
In a state where the contest is largely between the BRS and the Congress, and where the BJP is trying to gain ground, how confident are you?
Our assessment is that people are disillusioned with the BRS. The Congress is facing severe anti-incumbency as well. The only party that remains a worry for Telangana is the BJP. The BJP is growing—we won MLC seats, the BRS lost, and in Jubilee Hills they lost by 25,000 votes. We also did well in the gram panchayat elections.
It is the Congress’s fear of losing the elections and the BJP improving its performance, which is why the BJP is being targeted in Telangana.
If you see the Congress, they are afraid of Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis’s visit or BJP national chief Nitin Nabin’s visit. They are even afraid of the BJP’s enthusiastic campaign in Telangana.
In Mukhtal, the Congress did not even condole the death, nor did the BRS. The bandmaster who committed suicide belonged to the ST community, and they do not have sympathy for STs.
They tampered with the narrative that electoral loss was the reason for his death. That is not so. It was because of the local MLA and the threats from him that he was forced to kill himself. This incident occurred in the Chief Minister’s political district, where the CM has himself contested. They are treating it as a prestige fight.
