A war of words took place between Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over the latter’s remark on the India-US trade deal during his speech on Wednesday.
Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government “surrendered” to the US pressure. He then went on to make a series of sensational allegations that drew swift rebuttal from the government’s side and the Chair, which reminded him of the House rules, as the ruckus erupted in the House.
Rijiju interjected Gandhi and said, “We are not disturbing Rahul Gandhi when you are levelling charges and wild allegations without any proof, which is not acceptable.”
The minister also urged the Leader of Opposition to authenticate his allegations.
Jagdambika Pal, who was in the Chair, then ruled that Gandhi’s allegations would not go on the record of the Lok Sabha.
After the demand by the treasury bench, Rahul Gandhi said he wants to authenticate his remark.
However, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi then said the opposition leader should produce documents, backing his allegations.
