BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said there is no plan to move a privilege motion against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. However, he has sought the suspension of Rahul Gandhi’s membership from the Indian Parliament and brought a substantial motion against him on Thursday.

“There is no privilege motion. I have submitted a substantive motion wherein I have mentioned how he allegedly engages with the Soros Foundation, Ford Foundation, USAID and travels to places like Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and the US, and how he is linked with anti-India forces,” Dubey said.

The BJP MP demanded that Rahul Gandhi’s membership should be cancelled and that he be barred from contesting elections for life.

The development came a day after Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday in Lok Sabha, alleged that the interim trade deal between India and the United States was a “wholesale surrender”, with India’s energy security handed over to America and farmers’ interests compromised.

Participating in the debate on the Union Budget in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi claimed that Indian interests had been “surrendered” under the trade deal to protect the BJP’s financial architecture.

Slamming the Indo-US deal, the Congress MP drew an analogy of how in martial arts, after securing a grip, the next step is a chokehold, and then the opponent taps to give up.

What Is Substantive Motion?

A Substantive Motion is like a no-confidence motion or like an impeachment that can be brought against anyone holding an official position or that of high authority. It’s admissability will be debated in the House.

The person moving the motion will have to substantiate the grounds and charges against the person the motion was brought for.

A substantive motion is a formal proposal made by a member for consideration by the House. It usually involves a substantive issue that requires a decision.
