'Married to an Indian woman': US rep Brandon Gill's remark on Indian 7-Eleven workers triggers backlash online

US rep Brandon Gill is facing extreme heat online for his comment on hiring Indians at 7-Eleven stores in the US. In a video that is quickly gaining traction on X (formerly Twitter), Gill said the idea that America would bring a 7-Eleven worker from India or anywhere else on the globe to work at a gas station, because there was a lack of Americans ready to do the job was “asinine” and “idiotic.““We don’t need to import 7-Eleven workers from India or anywhere across the globe. Hire Americans,” he wrote in the caption of the post while sharing the video.

Gill appeared on The Benny Show, hosted by YouTuber Benny Johnson and talked about the rising immigrant demographic in areas like Frisco in Texas. He blamed the illegal and legal immigration through H-1B visa system, citing the example of 7-Eleven workers from India as fraudsters. He also claimed people set up fake businesses in the country and begin chain immigration once they settle down. “This stuff has to end at some point and I think that point is now,” he added. His comment stemmed from a video shot inside a 7-Eleven store in Texas, posted by controversial YouTuber Tyler Oliveira. In the clip, an Indian employee at the store mentioned that he is in the country on an H-1B visa and originally hailed from Andhra Pradesh in India. The video was later shared by AF Post on X with the caption: “Tyler Oliveira shows an H-1B worker at 7/11. To be approved for an H-1B, it must be determined that there is no American talent that can fill the occupation.”Gill, who represents Texas’ 26th Congressional district reacted to the video with a call to ban H-1B visas, writing, “H-1B is a scam and should be abolished.”The irony, as many social media users pointed out, is that Gill is married to an Indian himself. His wife, Danielle D’Souza is the daughter of Trump ally Dinesh D’Souza who was born in Mumbai and immigrated to the US in 1978. Danielle D’Souza Gill is an American author, commentator and conservative activist who has been actively involved with the Women for Trump coalition while also appearing on Fox News and Newsmax.Gill faces massive flak for his comments on Indians, with numerous netizens calling him out on his marriage to an Indian-origin woman. “Truly bizarre statement from a man married to an Indian woman, with Indian in-laws. Publicly he preaches white nationalism but in the bedroom, he’s a Third Worldist. The racist version of the closeted gay pastor,” wrote one user on X. “Gas Stations don’t pay well no one wants to work there open racism from a congressman is crazy,” added another. “Then why marry an Indian bro,” and “Do you consider your in-laws as imports, Congressman? Have some shame,” wrote others. Despite his personal ties to an immigrant family, Gill is known for being vocal about his anti-immigration stance. Previously, he took to X to argue that immigration is not inherently beneficial just because it is legal. In another post, he shared images of California from 1960 and 2025, comparing the two and claiming that mass migration has made America “unrecognisable.” Interestingly, each of his posts on the issue has been accompanied by similar reminders of his wife’s immigrant roots.
