The arrest of senior Trinamool Congress leader and long-time Bidhannagar Municipal councillor Devraj Chakraborty has once again put his wife, singer and politician Aditi Munshi, in the spotlight. Devraj was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) from Purulia in connection with an alleged case involving financial irregularities and property-related matters. His arrest has triggered fresh discussion about Aditi Munshi’s journey from a devotional singer to a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).

Aditi Munshi’s Rise Through Music: Aditi Munshi first gained widespread recognition in 2015 when she participated in the popular reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Her soulful renditions of kirtan and devotional music won over audiences, helping her carve out a distinct identity in the Bengali music industry. Her performances reportedly caught the attention of Devraj Chakraborty, who became an admirer of her singing.

How Their Relationship Began: According to reports, Devraj initially tried contacting Aditi after being impressed by her performances, but she did not respond to his calls. It is said that she was not interested in pursuing a relationship at the time. However, Devraj continued his efforts, sending her gifts and gradually developing a rapport with her family through frequent visits to their home. Eventually, he formally proposed marriage after speaking with her family.

A Grand Wedding And A Growing Career: The couple married in 2018 in a grand ceremony at Eco Park in Kolkata. Following their marriage, Aditi continued to build her career as a kirtan singer, performing at concerts across India and abroad. The couple later welcomed a son, and both their personal and professional lives appeared to be progressing smoothly.

Entry Into Politics: As Devraj’s influence within the Trinamool Congress grew, so did Aditi’s political career. Known to be close to Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee, Devraj reportedly strengthened his position in the party with the support of Sujit Bose and emerged as an influential leader in Bidhannagar and North 24 Parganas. Reports suggest that he later sidelined veteran leader Purnendu Basu and secured a party ticket for Aditi.

Ahead of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee nominated Aditi Munshi as the Trinamool Congress candidate from the Rajarhat-Gopalpur constituency. She went on to win the election, marking a significant transition from devotional singer to legislator. However, her political fortunes changed this year when she lost the Rajarhat-Gopalpur seat.

With Devraj Chakraborty now under arrest, public attention has once again turned to Aditi Munshi’s journey, from a reality show contestant and celebrated kirtan singer to an MLA whose political rise was closely linked to her husband’s growing influence within the Trinamool Congress.
