‘Nothing compares to home, but…’: Indian man explains why many people end up staying in US
Gaurav Makhloga explains why many people end up staying in the US instead of returning.

An Indian man living in the United States has spoken about why many people who move abroad with short-term plans to return home often end up settling there permanently, citing work prospects, lifestyle changes and the overall living environment as key factors.Gaurav Makhloga shared his thoughts in a video posted on Instagram, reflecting on how his outlook changed after relocating to the US.He said that before leaving India, he believed he would spend a few years earning money in America before returning home to settle down. However, he said his experience after moving was different from what he had expected. In the video, Makhloga highlighted the peaceful surroundings in his neighbourhood, showing quiet streets and green open spaces during the evening.

He said the calm environment made him understand why many people struggle to leave after building a life in the country.“Before coming to America, my plan was simply to spend a few years here, then head back home and enjoy life. But look at what I found here,” he said.He added that while nothing could replace one’s homeland, the quality of life in the US often influences people’s decisions to remain there.Makhloga also said professional opportunities and modern infrastructure were major factors behind that choice, arguing that they offer a level of convenience many immigrants value after settling abroad.Despite praising life in the US, he acknowledged the emotional connection people have with their native country, saying there is no substitute for one’s own home.
