The BJP on Thursday attacked Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over a statement she made during a debate on the anti-paper leak bill, in which she said that “750 crore students” had been affected by paper leaks.

The remark triggered sharp reactions from BJP leaders, who accused the Congress MP of making an inaccurate claim and questioned the basis of the figure cited by her.

Speaking during the debate, Priyanka Gandhi said that there had been 152 paper leaks in the last 12 years and that “750 crore students” had been affected, while alleging that no paper leak mafia had been convicted.

BJP Leaders Mock Remark

BJP National Spokesperson Sanju Verma took to X to ridicule the statement, pointing out that India’s total population is estimated at around 145-147 crore.

“After the original Pappu Mahashay, now we have Pappu’s version 2.0. Priyanka Vadra says ‘750 Crore Chhatra Prabhavit Hue’. Really? Total population of India is approximately 145-147 crore, so where did 750 crore students emerge from?” she wrote.

BJP IT Department head Amit Malviya also criticised the Congress leader, saying the figure exceeded India’s total population several times over.

“In a country of 140 crore people, Priyanka Vadra appears to believe there are 750 crore students. Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, she stepped out to insist that her brother was ‘not Pappu’. After this astonishing blunder and more, who is left to defend her?” Malviya said in a post on X.

BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari similarly mocked the remark, writing, “Priyanka Gandhi says India has 750 crore students. India’s total population is about 147 crore. Priyanka competes with Rahul Gandhi in intelligence!”

Jitendra Singh Questions Figure

Union Minister Jitendra Singh also raised questions over the statement, saying the number cited by Priyanka Gandhi exceeded the world’s population.

“There is no authentication of this statement. She said it affected 750 crore students. It accounts for more than the entire world’s population. Where does this number come from? It is either ignorance or mischief,” Singh said, while replying to the debate on the anti-paper leak bill in Lok Sabha.
