Australian star Steve Smith was given a warning by the umpires after a bizarre incident during Australia’s second Test match against Bangladesh in Mackay.
Taskin Ahmed bowled Steve Smith on the pads in the ninth over, and Bangladesh appealed to the umpire, Nitin Menon, who ruled him not out. Taskin sought a review from the captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, but Smith was confident and told the Bangladeshi fielders that the ball was going over the stumps. “Go for it,” he said.
In Australia’s second Test against Bangladesh in Mackay, Steve Smith received an umpire warning after suggesting Bangladesh decline an LBW review; meanwhile, Mitchell Starc took six wickets, causing Bangladesh’s collapse to 64 runs.
Shanto declined to review the decision, and the umpires remonstrated with Smith before resuming the game.
Starc, on the other hand, had a fantastic day as he recorded a six-for to spearhead Australia’s collapse of Bangladesh for only 64 after Australia had elected to field.

In the World Test Championship, Starc overtook pace colleagues Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon to claim the title for most wickets by a bowler.

Starc has claimed the second-highest wickets in the current WTC 2025-27 season with 54 wickets in 10 Tests, one ahead of England’s Josh Tongue. At the same time, Cummins and Lyon each have 225 wickets in 56 matches.
