Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) performance in Rajasthan’s urban local body elections, saying the results showed strong public support for the party’s policies of good governance and development under the “double-engine” government.

Taking to X, PM Modi thanked the people of Rajasthan for the BJP’s victory and said, “Heartfelt thanks to the people of Rajasthan for delivering a resounding victory to the BJP in the municipal elections. This is a testament to the triumph of truth over the echo of lies.”

The prime minister also congratulated the winning candidates and BJP workers, saying the mandate would strengthen efforts to bring development and prosperity to the state.

“This will not only propel the state to new heights of progress but also strengthen our resolve to bring prosperity to the lives of every individual,” he added.

The BJP is set to form boards in four municipal corporations — Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur and Bhilwara. Congress secured a clear majority in Bikaner Municipal Corporation.

In Jaipur, the BJP won 78 of the 150 wards, against Congress’ 53 and Independents’ 15. In Jodhpur, however, BJP and Congress were tied at 44 wards each, making Independents crucial to board formation.

Independents Hold Key In Several Cities

The BJP secured majorities in 12 of 47 municipal councils, while Congress won a majority in eight. The remaining 21 councils produced no clear majority.

Among 252 municipalities, BJP secured a majority in 66 and Congress in 38. Independents are expected to play a key role in 121 municipalities where no party has a clear majority.
