Montfort School, Ashok Vihar, Delhi, organised ‘The Odyssey – A Timeless Tapestry’, a mega cultural event, at its school premises. The programme featured a spectacular presentation by students celebrating India’s extraordinary journey through history, culture, knowledge and tradition.
Ankita Anand (IAS), Director of Education, Delhi, attended the event as the Chief Guest, while Rev. Bro. Thampy Alex, Provincial Superior (Province of Delhi), was present as the Guest of Honour.
Ankita Anand congratulated the students for their stunning performances and appreciated their efforts in bringing India’s rich cultural heritage alive on stage. Sharing her thoughts on achieving goals in life, she encouraged students to remain focused, work with dedication and perseverance, and pursue their aspirations with confidence.
Welcoming the Chief Guest, Montfort School Principal Bro. Joy Thomas expressed his gratitude to Ankita Anand for gracing the occasion. He also applauded the students, whom he described as the “stars of the evening”, for their outstanding performances.
“The students were undoubtedly the stars of the evening. Their performances left everyone spellbound and reflected their hard work, creativity and dedication. I would also like to congratulate our teachers and support staff, whose collective efforts and commitment made this event a grand success,” Bro. Joy Thomas said.
Conceived as a tribute to India’s civilisational journey, The Odyssey took the audience through significant chapters of the country’s history, from the settlements of the Indus Valley to its contributions to science, medicine, yoga, art and philosophy. The presentation also highlighted India’s experience of cultural exchanges, historical conflicts, the freedom struggle and its emergence as a confident nation moving towards a brighter future.
Through music, dance, drama and visual expression, students brought alive defining moments and remarkable personalities that have shaped the nation. The cultural extravaganza featured a diverse range of performances, including Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Punjabi Bhangra, Gujarati and Rajasthani dances, yoga and Kalaripayattu, alongside dramatic presentations on ancient India, modern India and historical invasions. The programme also included performances highlighting the five elements of nature — earth, air, water, fire and space.
The school described the production as a heartfelt attempt by its students to celebrate India’s heritage, honour the sacrifices that secured its freedom and inspire pride in the country’s timeless values. The presentation also underlined the importance of passing this legacy on to the younger generation.
The programme commenced with an introduction to The Odyssey, followed by a welcome address, the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and a prayer song. Staff members were felicitated before the cultural presentation. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Principal and the National Anthem.
With its blend of history, artistic expression and cultural diversity, The Odyssey – A Timeless Tapestry emerged as a celebration of India’s enduring legacy and the creativity of its young minds.
