BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has demanded that India reclaim Chittagong Port, Noakhali and Sylhet, which are now part of Bangladesh, alleging that former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru handed over these territories to Pakistan during Partition. He also blamed the loss of access to Chittagong Port for restricting the development of India’s Northeast.

Raising the issue of Tripura’s accession to India, Dubey questioned the decisions taken during the Partition period and claimed that regions historically associated with the former princely state were transferred to Pakistan without consulting its royal family.

Referring to the Instrument of Accession signed by princely rulers, Dubey said Tripura became part of India between 1948 and 1949. However, he alleged that Noakhali, Sylhet and Chittagong, which he claimed were associated with the kingdom, were handed over to Pakistan.

Questioning the decision, he asked, “On what basis did you give away these territories? Was it on the basis of the Radcliffe Line or the McMahon Line?”

Dubey also referred to Maharaja Bir Bikram Dev’s death on May 15 and alleged that Maharani Kanchan Prabha was not informed before parts of the kingdom were handed over.

“The King and the entire royal family were with India. Yet, you kept the Maharani, Kanchan Prabha, in the dark,” he said.

The BJP MP further argued that the issue of territories under Pakistan’s control should not be limited to Kashmir. He claimed that some regions historically linked to Tripura are now under Bangladesh’s control.

“So, it is not just Kashmir that is under Pakistan’s occupation. Some of our territories are now under Bangladesh’s control,” Dubey said.

Dubey Links Chittagong Port To Northeast’s Development

The BJP leader also connected the loss of Chittagong Port to the economic and infrastructure challenges faced by the Northeast. He argued that India’s lack of access to the port had affected the region’s development and connectivity.

He claimed that access to Chittagong would help the Northeast make better use of its resources and improve trade opportunities.

Calling for the recovery of the territories, Dubey said, “The time has now come to reclaim the Chittagong port, Noakhali and Sylhet, which you handed over to Pakistan as a gift.”

He added, “Only when these territories are returned will India’s overall development be possible.”
