The first ladies of the United States often grace the cover of Vogue but Melania Trump was an exception during her first stint as the first lady. Melania earlier saw it as a snub and called it a bias of Vogue that she was never approached by the magazine while she has a long career as an international model. “They’re biased and they have likes and dislikes, and it’s so obvious. And I think American people and everyone sees it. It was their decision, and I have much more important things to do — and I did in the White House — than being on the cover of Vogue,” Melania once said in 2022.
The sentiment has not changed and in her first interview on Fox since her husband’s election win, she said she has been on the cover of Vogue and many other magazines before.
“Look, I’ve been there on the covers, on the cover of Vogue and many magazines before. For me, we have so many other important things to do than to be on the cover of any magazine. I think the life would not change for anybody if I am on the cover of any magazine,” Melania said.
As soon as Donald Trump announced that he would be running for president in 2015, life changed for her and her family, Melania said.
Melania’s statement came as a dig at Jill Biden who was the cover of Vogue in the August edition. Melania never got along well with Jill Biden and even refused the traditional White House meeting between the outgoing first lady and the incoming first lady for tea.
Both Donald Trump and Melania appeared on the Vogue cover pre-White House. In 2005, Melania wore her 200,000 wedding dress on Vogue cover following her marriage to Donald Trump. According to journalist Amy Odell’s biography of Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Anna: The Biography, Melania Trump was twice asked to be photographed for the magazine before and after Trump’s inauguration, but allegedly refused since they wouldn’t guarantee her a cover.
