Parliament Winter Session, Constitution Debate in Lok Sabha: Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament, convened today for a two-day intense debate to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the adoption of India’s Constitution.
The Constitution debate took place in Lok Sabha on December 13 and it will continue on December 14 before concluding, with a similar session in Rajya Sabha scheduled on December 16 and 17. Several top leaders from the BJP-led NDA and Congress-led INDIA bloc will participate in the discussion.
It comes amid the “war of narratives” between the ruling and opposition sides, which has paralysed the normal functioning of the Parliament this winter session, scheduled to conclude on December 20.
The special Constitution debate will culminate with a reply by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, according to party sources. Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to start the debate in Rajya Sabha on Monday.
The BJP and the Congress both issued three-line whips to their MPs on Thursday, asking them to be present in the house on December 13-14 during the scheduled debate on the Constitution in India.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin, extended till March 2029 to build two crore additional homes, has led a Parliamentary committee to recommend increasing the assistance under the scheme. The Committee on Rural Development, led by Congress MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, said that the assistance of Rs 1.2 lakh had remained unchanged for years, often leaving houses incomplete. In a report presented in the Lok Sabha, the panel said that the “Housing for All” goal could not be achieved without providing proper financial support at the right time.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday underlined the role of the Supreme Court in protecting the spirit of the Constitution, saying that the top court is the ‘Custodian’ and ‘Interpreter’ of the Constitution.
He remembered Supreme Court Justice H.R. Khanna, whose nephew, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, recently assumed the office of Chief Justice of India (CJI). He recalled how Justice H.R. Khanna’s judgment against the then-Congress government cost him the position of Chief Justice.
“I would like to quote a line from the autobiography of former Supreme Court Justice H.R. Khanna, ‘Neither Roses Nor Thorns’, in which he has clearly written, ‘I told my younger sister, Santosh, I have prepared a judgment which is going to cost me the Chief Justiceship of India’. Most of you would know the context of this incident and these lines that happened in the year 1976. Justice HR Khanna had given a ‘Dissenting Judgment’ against the then Congress government in the ‘ADM Jabalpur v. Shivkant Shukla’ case,” Singh said.
