‘That train has left!’: Elon Musk reacts as US state department’s ‘trans’ search result suggests ‘trains’
A viral post on X has drawn attention to the State Department’s website after a user claimed that searching for the word “trans” returned the suggestion, “Did you mean trains?”
The discovery quickly gained traction, with billionaire Elon Musk responding with a “🚂” emoji. The original user humorously replied, “Choo Choo 😂 🚂”, further fueling the online discussion.
The post triggered a wave of reactions, with some users mocking the situation while others viewed it as a shift in government priorities. One user quipped, “The government finally prioritizing infrastructure over identity politics—progress!” Another joked about the ambiguity, writing, “Did you mean transformers?”
Others played along with the train analogy, with one user remarking, “Yes. That train has left!” Another commented on the absurdity, stating, “Next time I book a flight, I’ll make sure to check the railway schedule too”. Meanwhile, a user welcomed the change with a simple remark, “Normalcy is restored.”
The reactions come amid a sweeping directive from the office of personnel management (OPM) under President Donald Trump, which ordered federal agencies to remove gender-related references from government websites. As per AP, this move led to pages either displaying “page not found” messages or being entirely taken down.
According to USA Today, the State Department also eliminated the “X” gender marker option from passport applications and instructed employees to remove gender pronouns from email signatures.
Meanwhile, the bureau of prisons changed its “Inmate Gender” webpage to “Inmate Sex,” and the national park service removed content related to LGBTQ+ history.
