A former FBI agent is under fire for allegedly sharing sensitive investigative information—and even a nude photo of his girlfriend—using his government email, while also reportedly interfering in a federal probe into Hunter Biden, New York Post reports.
Tim Thibault, who once served as an assistant special agent in charge at the FBI’s Washington Field Office, is accused of leaking official documents, naming bureau employees, and forwarding details about an ongoing investigation to his girlfriend, Melissa Morgan-Ransome, between February and May 2022. Republican senators Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson revealed the details in a letter demanding an immediate probe into his conduct.
Leaking FBI files and a nude photo
Thibault allegedly sent multiple emails containing restricted FBI documents to his girlfriend, some of which carried a disclaimer that they included “information about FBI employees and activities that is not available to the public.” One email reportedly contained a thread about a federal probe into anti-abortion activist Lauren Handy, who was convicted under the FACE Act and later pardoned by US President Donald Trump.
In April 2022, Thibault allegedly went a step further—forwarding a naked photo of Morgan-Ransome from his official FBI email account. The email was sent to both her and a George Washington University address linked to him. The former agent had been a guest lecturer at the university, leading discussions on ethical dilemmas in government and distinguishing between unlawful and unethical conduct.
Shielding Hunter Biden?
Beyond his alleged email leaks, Thibault is also accused of protecting former US President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden from federal investigation. According to whistleblower disclosures, he worked with supervisory intelligence analyst Brian Auten in a scheme to “undermine derogatory information connected to Hunter Biden by falsely suggesting it was disinformation.”
Thibault had also been the FBI’s main point of contact for handling evidence from Tony Bobulinski, a business associate of Hunter Biden. Bobulinski had provided documents related to a $5 million venture involving Hunter, James Biden, and a Chinese energy conglomerate. Some emails from Hunter’s abandoned laptop suggested Joe Biden—referred to as “the big guy”—was set to receive a 10% stake in the deal.
Senators Grassley and Johnson, who received whistleblower evidence against Thibault, argue that his actions raise serious ethical concerns. “Thibault’s conduct is an example of exactly the type of behaviour that the both of you were confirmed to eliminate,” the senators wrote to FBI director Kash Patel and attorney general Pam Bondi.
‘Deeply troubling’ behaviour
Thibault resigned from the FBI in August 2022 after the allegations surfaced. The then-FBI director Christopher Wray described the accusations of political interference, as well as Thibault’s social media activity targeting Republicans, as “deeply troubling.”
Grassley and Johnson have urged the FBI to investigate whether Thibault’s actions created a hostile work environment or constituted sexual harassment. They also demanded records of his communication with Morgan-Ransome, who was previously a Florida fitness instructor.
“The FBI repeatedly lectures Congress, without any legitimate basis, that it can’t share information with Congress because the matter is an ongoing investigation,” the senators noted. “Yet, here, Thibault sent all of that type of information to a private citizen while the FBI stiff-arms Congress and the American people.”
The FBI has declined to comment on the matter.
