President Donald Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill’ that had several proposals, including MAGA accounts with $1K for newborns were rejected by the House Budget Committee after Speaker Mike Johnson and his team failed to bring several Republical opponents on board. Chip Roy (R-Texas), Ralph Norman, Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) and Josh Brecheen (Okla.) joined all of the panel’s Democrats in voting against the measure.Lloyd Smucker (R-Pa.) changed his vote from “yes” to “no” after it was clear there were not enough votes to prevail. He said he did so to preserve the panel’s ability to reconsider the measure while he wrote on X that he fully supported the bill.
What’s next for the big, beautiful bill?
Speaker Mike Johnson and his leadership team will now spend the weekend trying to win over those Republicans before attempting to take that vote again, potentially as soon as Monday, CNN reported. But it will be a tough task to flip the right-wing Republicans, who are demanding more spending cuts from Medicaid and from federal clean energy programs, especially as Johnson must also be careful not to alienate moderates whose votes he also needs with any changes to the bill, the report said.The 16-21 voting was not unexpected as the hardline Republicans warned Johnson and his team that they were planning to oppose.
MAGA savings account for children
One of the provisions of the bill was to establish MAGA savings accounts for children. Here, MAGA does not stand for Make America Great Again, but money account for growth and advancement. It promised to give the parents of every baby with a Social Security number born between the beginning of 2025 and the end of 2028 a “one-time credit of $1,000.”One of the contentious points of the bill was the proposed Medicaid overhaul.Ahead of the voting, Trump urged for unity in the party and not grandstanding. “Republicans MUST UNITE behind, “THE ONE, BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL!” Not only does it cut Taxes for ALL Americans, but it will kick millions of Illegal Aliens off of Medicaid to PROTECT it for those who are the ones in real need. The Country will suffer greatly without this Legislation, with their Taxes going up 65%. It will be blamed on the Democrats, but that doesn’t help our Voters.We don’t need “GRANDSTANDERS” in the Republican Party. STOP TALKING, AND GET IT DONE!
