The Congress party on Wednesday questioned the announcement of Parliament’s monsoon session amid its demand for a special sitting to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor and said that the schedule of the session has never been declared 47 days in advance.

Commenting on the government’s move, Congress General Secretary in-charge Communication Jairam Ramesh said that the Centre wants to run away from the opposition’s demand for the special session.

“Yesterday 16 opposition parties have demanded that a special session be called… In the attacks that took place in Poonch, Ganderbal and Gulmarg in the last 18 months, the same terrorists who carried out the brutal killings in Pahalgam were involved and they have not been caught yet… US President Trump has repeated 12 times that a ceasefire has taken place between India and Pakistan because of me… Our foreign and diplomacy have completely failed. These are all public issues,” he told ANI.

Ramesh also indicated that the Congress will raise the issue of the Pahalgam attack and the failure to bring the perpetrators to justice, the impacts of Operation Sindoor and its blatant “politicisation”, the embedding of China in the Pakistan Air Force, the repeated claims by Donald President Donald Trump on India-Pakistan mediation, and the numerous “failures” of India’s foreign policy and diplomatic engagements.

Normally the dates for a Parliament session are announced a few days in advance. Never have the dates been declared 47 days before a session is due. This has been done solely to run away from the demand being made repeatedly by the Indian National Congress and the INDIA parties…

Parliament Monsoon Session

The Monsoon session of Parliament will be held from July 21 to August 12, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Wednesday.

The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has recommended the dates. The recommendation will be sent to the president for convening the session, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister said.

“Every session is a special session for us,” he said, adding that under the rules, “all important matters” can be discussed during the Monsoon session.

He underlined that the business advisory committee of both the Houses will take a call on the issues to be discussed.

INDIA Bloc Demands Special Session

Senior leaders of INDIA bloc parties met on Tuesday to push their demand for a Special Session of Parliament in the wake of Operation Sindoor. Leaders from 16 parties wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stressing that there were “serious questions facing the nation”.

Senior opposition leaders asserted that the session was needed to discuss a series of events, including the Pahalgam attack, followed by Operation Sindoor, US President Donald Trump’s claim of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and the death of civilians in border areas in Pakistan shelling.

“There are serious questions facing the nation about the terror attack, killing of civilians in Poonch, Uri and Rajouri, the ceasefire announcements, and the implications on our national security and foreign policy. We have supported the government’s efforts to engage with the international community on India’s position,” opposition leaders said in a joint letter.

“The government has briefed foreign nations and the media, but not Parliament-keeping the people of India and their elected representatives in the dark. Therefore, we urge you to convene a special session of Parliament immediately upon the return of the all-party delegations,” they said.

Jairam Ramesh and Deepender Hooda, Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) Derek O’Brien, Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) Manoj Jha, Samajwadi Party’s (SP) Ramgopal Yadav, and Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut attended the meeting.

Several Opposition parties have been demanding a special session of Parliament since the Pahalgam terror attack. The demand was also raised in an all-party meeting held to inform the lawmakers about Operation Sindoor.

Trinamool Congress has suggested that the session should be held in June, after the multi-party delegations that have travelled to different countries to convey India’s stand against terrorism return to the country.

India struck nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK under Operation Sindoor, which was a military response to the April 22 attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir that left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead.
