Trump unveils US 'Gold Card' website: Who can apply, eligibility; all you need to know

US President Donald Trump’s much-awaited “Gold Card,” which offers foreigners a path to US citizenship after paying $5 million to the government, has finally opened the waiting list for business. “Thousands have been calling and asking how they can sign up to ride a beautiful road in gaining access to the Greatest Country and Market anywhere in the World,” Trump wrote in a social media post.The golden colour, complete with Trump’s photo, signature, and name, is what people will get when they sign up for the card. But how to apply for this?

Here are the details-

  • Step 2: Once one open the website, scroll down to see the list of things that one is required to fill. In the website, the applicant has to enter their personal information, including name, selecting their region, stating their purpose, entering their e-mail ID, and specifying whether the residency request is for themselves, their spouse, family members or other individuals. The new website asks interested people to fill out a form that specifies eight regions: Europe, Asia (including Middle East), North America, Oceania, Central America, South America, Caribbean and Africa.

  • Step 3: Once you select the option, submit, the website will be directed to a new web page where you have to enter the OTO sent to your mail id.
  • Step 4: Enter the code on the official website and submit.

The applicant will receive a message saying, “Your Journey Begins. You’ll be the first to hear when access opens.”

Eligibility

When you go to the website, there is no such terms and conditions that is required to fill up the form or ask whether you fulfil this criteria to apply for the “Gold Card” for now. But earlier, when Trump proposed the Card, it was as a replacement for the EB-5 investor visa programme, which has an eligibility. The programme grants green cards to foreigners who invest between $800,000 and $1.05 million into US job-creating projects. The EB-5 programme has long suffered from backlogs and accusations of fraud.“Wealthy people will be coming into our country by buying this card,” Trump said in February.“They’ll be wealthy, and they’ll be successful, and they’ll be spending a lot of money, and paying a lot of taxes and employing a lot of people.”He added, “It’s a road to citizenship for people and essentially people of wealth or people of great talent where people of wealth pay for those people of talent to get in.”
