‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ beats ‘Ghajini’ to Become Aamir Khan’s 6th Biggest Hit at the Box Office
Aamir Khan is back. His film Sitaare Zameen Par is a box office success. The movie earned Rs 122.65 crore. It beat Ghajini’s record. Sitaare Zameen Par shows Aamir’s strong connection with the audience. The film did well in its second weekend. It might challenge Thugs of Hindostan next. New film releases could affect its run.

Aamir Khan’s latest film Sitaare Zameen Par has officially crossed a major milestone at the box office, becoming the sixth biggest hit of the superstar’s career in terms of Hindi net collections. After ten days in theatres, the emotional drama has raked in Rs 122.65 crore across all languages, with its Hindi version alone contributing Rs 121.88 crore. With this the film has surpassed the lifetime of his 2008 blockbuster Ghajini (Rs 114 crore), which for years was considered one of the benchmarks of success in Indian cinema as it was the film which opened the Rs 100 crore club.

This achievement marks a significant comeback for Aamir Khan after the underwhelming performance of Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022, which had netted only Rs 61.12 crore in Hindi during its theatrical run. Sitaare Zameen Par not only brings him back into box office form but also re-establishes his connect with audiences, especially in the emotional and socially conscious storytelling space — something that has been his stronghold since Taare Zameen Par.SZP opened to a solid Rs 10.7 crore on its first Friday and saw tremendous growth over the weekend, collecting Rs 20.2 crore on Saturday and Rs 27.25 crore on Sunday. Even though there was a predictable dip on Monday and Tuesday, the collections held steady mid-week and gained momentum again during the second weekend, with Rs 14.50 crore on its second Sunday (early estimates). This strong hold suggests that word-of-mouth is working in the film’s favour. The success of the film showcases strong audience pull and brand loyalty to Aamir Khan’s style of cinema. Now placed at number six on Aamir Khan’s list of top-grossing films, Sitaare Zameen Par sits just behind Thugs of Hindostan (Rs 145.55 crore), and ahead of iconic titles like Ghajini (Rs 114 crore), Talaash (Rs 93.61 crore), Taare Zameen Par (Rs 62.95 crore), and Laal Singh Chaddha (Rs 61.12 crore). As the film enters its second week, the path ahead seems promising. If the current trend continues, Sitaare Zameen Par could even challenge Thugs of Hindostan for the fifth spot by next weekend. This would be despite Anurag Basu releasing his Metro … In Dino starring Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan along with Akshaye Khanna’s Akshardham as both new films have failed to generate any major buzz.
