With eight days remaining, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has already collected enumeration forms from nearly 90% (7.08 crore) of Bihar’s 7.90 crore electors, data issued by the poll body on Thursday shows. Further, almost 85% (6.70 crore) of the forms have been digitised so far as part of the EC’s special drive to revise electoral rolls.

“As of today, 89.7% of the existing electors have given their enumeration form to be included in the draft Electoral-Roll to be published on August 1. Any elector can also check the status of their enumeration form either on ECINet App or on https://voters.eci.gov.in. The Enumeration Forms can also be filled online in Hindi on the same link,” the ECI announced.

Re-verification of missing voters by political parties

On Monday, News18 had reported that 35.69 lakh names are expected to be dropped from the current voter list as they were not found at their addresses. This includes probably 12.55 lakh deceased electors, 17.37 lakh permanently shifted, and 5.76 lakh enrolled at multiple places.

After Bihar Voter List Revision, 35.6 Lakh Names Dropped So Far

The number of voters in this category remains unchanged. To re-verify the number of electors who have not been found at their addresses even after three visits of BLOs, the poll body is now allowing the political parties to cross check.

“… the information on electors who are probably deceased, permanently shifted or have enrolled at multiple places is being shared with District Presidents of political parties and the 1.5 lakh Booth Level Agents appointed by them so that exact status of such electors can be confirmed by them before July 25,” the ECI added.

ECI offers technology solution for temporary migrants

For those who have temporarily migrated outside Bihar, the ECI reminded them that they can still fill the enumeration form online using their mobile phones through the ECINet App or through https://voters.eci.gov.in.

They may also download the pre-filled Enumeration form and share their filled forms with BLOs directly or through family via WhatsApp or any other medium.

The ECI has urged all eligible voters to ensure they are included to avoid exclusion during the upcoming elections.

The special revision is part of the EC’s broader effort to ensure accuracy in the electoral roll ahead of the expected elections later this year as the term of the Bihar assembly is ending in November.

All individuals who submit their Enumeration Forms by July 25 will be included in the draft voter list, expected on August 1. Eligibility documents can be submitted separately during the claims and objections period, which ends on September 1. The final electoral roll is likely to be published by September 30.
