The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday lashed out Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he mocked his public image as mere “showmanship” with no real “substance”.

What Rahul Gandhi Said?

In a scathing attack on the Prime Minister, the Congress leader dismissing his public image as mere “showmanship” lacking real “substance.”

While addressing ’Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan’ of OBCs at the Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on Friday, Gandhi said that he has met PM Modi in person a few times and found him “all show and no substance,” he said as quoted by news agency PTI.

“He is just a big show, he has been given too much importance,” he said.

It was the media, he said, that had “inflated” the Prime Minister’s “balloon”.

He claimed that after meeting PM Modi two to three times he had figured that the Prime Minister was never a “big problem.” He then went on to say, “Dum nahin hai” (He doesn’t have guts).

He posed a rhetorical question to the audience, “You know what the real problem is in politics?” prompting someone to respond with PM Modi’s name.

“Main aapko bata raha hoon, ye aapne apne sir pe chadha rakha hai, ye koi problem nahi hai. Ye jo media wale hain inhone iska gubbara bana rakha hai. Ye koi problem nahi hai. (I am telling you, you have given him too much importance, he is not a problem),” the Congress leader said.

BJP Reacts

BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi slammed the Congress leader for insulting the Indian premier saying that the grand-old-party has always been talking bad about PM Modi.

He further said that the Congress has become used to it.

He further emphasised on PM Modi surpassing Indira Gandhi’s 48-year-old record for the second-longest uninterrupted tenure as Prime Minister. With 4,078 consecutive days in office, he went past Indira Gandhi’s continuous stint of 4,077 days, which lasted from January 24, 1966, to March 24, 1977.

“Today, PM Modi has become the second-longest-serving PM of the country with an uninterrupted tenure. When Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi became the Prime Ministers of the country, it was the result of the prevailing circumstances. However, PM Modi has achieved this record with the mandate of the people,” Trivedi said.
