Superman' box office collections day 17: James Gunn's film stays the course; soars past Rs 3600 Cr globally

James Gunn’s Superman (3D) is showing no signs of slowing down globally. With a whopping worldwide gross of Rs 3603.76 crore, the film has become one of the standout performers of the year internationally. In India, while the total net collection stands at Rs 47.95 crore, the movie has earned an estimated gross of Rs 57.26 crore, as reported by the Sacnilk website.

Regional versions contribute

The film’s dubbed Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi versions have shown patchy performances in contrast. Telugu has collected Rs 1.67 crore so far, with the early days contributing the bulk. Tamil fared similarly with Rs 1.84 crore net, where the peak was mostly during the first weekend. The Hindi version has pulled in Rs 9.65 crore so far, thanks to support from Hindi-speaking metros and decent Sunday traction during the first two weekends. Although numbers started tapering off post Day 10, the Hindi audience has shown a steady trickle.

Strong start, predictable dip, and weekend revival

‘Superman’ launched with Rs 7.25 crore on day 1 and picked up further on its first Saturday with Rs 9.5 crore. The film saw a minor drop on Sunday but maintained momentum, closing its opening weekend with Rs 26 crore. However, the collections took a hit starting Monday with a sharp 72% drop.Though far from record-breaking, ‘Superman’s numbers reflect a stable theatrical presence, aided by Gunn’s fresh take on the DC universe and a cast that brings renewed energy to familiar capes. With a few more days of run ahead, the film may inch closer to the Rs 50 crore milestone in India. The film features David Corenswet as the iconic Superman alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, and Edi Gathegi in prominent roles.
