TL;DR:

  • Kuwait has launched an official Kuwait Visa portal, allowing eligible travellers to apply online for tourist, family, business, and official visiting visas.
  • Tourist visas are valid for up to 90 days, while family, business, and official visas are valid for 30 days per visit.
  • Applications, document uploads, and payment are fully web-based via the Ministry of Interior’s e‑Visa platform.

As of July 2025, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior has launched a dedicated e‑Visa platform enabling travellers to apply online for tourist, family, business, and official visit visas. The digital system streamlines processing, eliminates paperwork, and supports Kuwait’s push toward modern, user-friendly public services.

Who Can Apply & Visa Categories

The official Kuwait Visa portal, managed by the Ministry of Interior, offers four main visa types:

  • Tourist Visa: For leisure and travel, valid for up to 90 days per entry.
  • Family Visit Visa: For relatives of Kuwaiti residents, valid for 30 days.
  • Business Visit Visa: For professionals attending meetings or deals, valid for 30 days.
  • Official Visit Visa: For government delegates or diplomats, valid for 30 days.

Only nationals from eligible countries, including majority of Europe, North America, Australia, Japan, and GCC residents can apply online without needing to visit embassies.

Application Process (All Online)

Visit the Ministry of Interior’s official e‑Visa portal or through e.gov.kw. Register with valid email and password or log in via government authentication. Choose one of the four permitted visa categories based on your purpose of travel.

  • Enter Details & Upload Documents

Submit the following:

  • Passport bio-data page (valid for 6+ months)
  • Passport-sized photo with white background
  • Return flight ticket and accommodation proof
  • Sponsor letter (for business or family visit)
  • Invitation letter or government endorsement (for official visas)

Make secure online payment via debit/credit card. Fees range approximately USD 10–30 depending on nationality.

  • Submit & Track Application

Check status online using your visa application reference or passport number. Approval typically takes 1–3 working days. Once approved, you receive a digital visa by email. Print a copy or have it available digitally to present upon arrival.

Visa Rules & Requirements

  • Passport validity: Must be valid for at least 6 months from entry date.
  • Stay limits: Tourist = 90 days stay; Family, Business, Official = up to 30 days.
  • Visa on arrival: Some eligible GCC residents and visa-exempt nationalities can also obtain visa upon arrival, though online application is encouraged.
  • Infractions like overstays or misuse of visa purpose may result in fines or bans enforcement upon arrival.

Why This Matters

  • Fully digital & efficient: Removes need for embassy visits or paperwork, aligning with Kuwait’s digital governance goals.

  • Supports tourism and investment: Simplified process is expected to boost leisure and business travel growth.
  • Enhances regional integration: Platform launch paves the way for future GCC Unified Tourist Visa, facilitating multi-country travel.

Kuwait’s launch of the new e-visa portal marks a significant step forward in digital governance and travel facilitation. By streamlining visa processes for visitors, especially tourists and family members, the country is positioning itself as a more accessible and welcoming destination in the Gulf. The move aligns with Kuwait Vision 2035 goals to modernize public services and boost tourism and economic ties with other nations. As the portal gains traction, applicants are advised to familiarize themselves with the official requirements and avoid relying on third-party intermediaries. The Ministry of Interior has also hinted at expanding the scope of services on the portal in future updates, potentially allowing renewals and long-term visa applications online. Whether you’re planning a short family visit or arriving as a tourist, Kuwait’s new digital visa platform ensures that your entry into the country is smoother, faster, and more secure than ever before.
