The Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday urged people to boycott movies featuring the actor-politician Kamal Haasan, in response to his comments on Sanatana Dharma.
This came after actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Haasan stoked a political row with his remarks that education is the only weapon that could “break the chains of autocracy and the Sanatan Dharma”.
BJP state secretary Amar Prasad Reddy posted a video message on his social media account, saying, “Earlier it was Udhayanidhi Stalin. Now, it is Kamal Haasan who wants to destroy Sanatana Dharma. Let’s teach them a lesson.”
“I appeal to every Hindu to not watch Kamal’s movies, not even on OTT. If we do this, they will not share such irresponsible statements that hurt millions of Hindus on public platforms,” he added.
Senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan alleged that Haasan has insulted Hindu sentiments and condemned his remark. She wondered why he negatively mentioned Sanatan while he was speaking about education and its importance.
Kamal Haasan Stokes Row Again
Days after getting involved in the language row, Kamal Haasan has once again sparked a controversy saying that education is the only weapon that could break the chains of autocracy and the Sanatan Dharma. His comment on “chain of Sanatan”, was strongly condemned by the Tamil Nadu BJP.
Addressing an event organised by Agaram Foundation, a non-profit run by fellow Tamil actor Suriya, the Rajya Sabha MP said the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) has prevented access to medical education for so many children and the strength to change that rule of exam could emerge only from education.
Haasan said, in this war against NEET, even Aagaram Foundation cannot do anything and education alone could mould the nation without any other weapon. “This is the only weapon that can break the chains of autocracy and Sanatana (Dharma),” he said.
