The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party met on Tuesday morning at the Parliament Library building for a special occasion — to formally introduce the alliance’s candidate for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while presenting CP Radhakrishnan as the NDA’s nominee, struck a note of nostalgia.

Speaking warmly of their friendship spanning over four decades, he remarked, “We have been friends since the time both of us had black hair.”

The Prime Minister went on to highlight Radhakrishnan’s humble beginnings and his roots in the OBC community. Emphasising his dignified political journey, Modi praised him for maintaining integrity while serving in constitutional positions such as Governor.

“He comes from a simple background and will never indulge in political games — Raajneeti mein khel nahi karenge,” the Prime Minister is said to have added.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Participated in the NDA Parliamentary Party Meeting in Delhi this morning. Happy to see the enthusiasm in favour of Thiru CP Radhakrishnan’s candidature for the Vice Presidency.”

Following the meeting, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said PM Modi has appealed to all the MPs, including the Opposition, to support CP Radhakrishnan in the Vice-Presidential elections. “NDA candidate for the Vice-Presidential election, CP Radhakrishnan, was introduced in the meeting. The floor leaders, MPs of the NDA, warmly welcomed CP Radhakrishnan ji, congratulated him and thanked the Prime Minister. His introduction was given by Prime Minister Modi in the meeting of the NDA Parliamentary Party,” he told the reporters.

The Union Minister added that PM Modi has appealed to all the MPs to support the NDA’s candidate unanimously.

After his candidature was announced on Sunday evening, Radhakrishnan reached Delhi on Monday. He first met PM Modi and later interacted with NDA floor leaders, before being introduced to the full parliamentary party, which extended unanimous support to his nomination.

Radhakrishnan is scheduled to file his nomination papers on August 20 at 11 AM, in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and senior NDA leaders.
