Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray visited his cousin and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray at his residence on Wednesday on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, marking a rare visit after more than two decades since Raj left the Shiv Sena in 2005.

Uddhav Thackeray was accompanied by his wife Rashmi and his son Aaditya on the occasion, as both families came together for pictures. Uddhav’s visit to Raj’s home sends yet another strong signal of rapprochement between the two parties ahead of the crucial Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls.

“Along with party chief Uddhav Saheb Thackeray and my mother Rashmi Thackeray, we had the heartfelt darshan of Lord Ganesha at the residence of my uncle, Raj Saheb Thackeray, and aunt, Sharmila Thackeray,” said Aaditya Thackeray in a post on X.

The Thackeray cousins had been estranged after Raj broke away from the Shiv Sena in 2005 to form the MNS. However, they have been seen together several times in recent months, triggering speculation over a political reunion.

The two had shared a stage on July 5 to celebrate their “victory” after the Maharashtra government rolled back its contentious GRs on three-language formula for students of Class 1 to 5 and the “imposition of Hindi” in the state.

Raj Thackeray, known for his sharp commentary, added a dose of political irony from the stage, saying, “Balasaheb couldn’t bring us together, but Devendra Fadnavis managed to do it.” The MNS chief also reaffirmed their stance against Hindi language imposition.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are expected to be held later this year or in early 2026, and are seen as a crucial battle for control of Asia’s richest civic body.
