“If we were doing it, it would have been done by now.” That was RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at the Sangh’s centenary lecture series, hinting at the selection of the BJP national president and immediately reminding the audience that in politics, even the most influential cannot simply snap their fingers. “We can only give suggestions,” he stated, and then, with subtle humour, added, “I said, take your time.”

Bhagwat’s honesty while addressing a packed auditorium at the Vigyan Bhawan revealed a deeper truth about the power and guidance structure in the RSS.

Coordination is everything, and the Sangh maintains good ties with every government, not just “this one”, but with all governments at both the state and central levels, he added while responding to a question related to coordination with the government.

“Systems exist to manage contradictions, and even when the intent is clear on all sides, hurdles remain. The man in the chair may want something to happen; he knows the challenges,” Bhagwat said, extending his support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He explained that multiple issues arise during the decision-making process. Bureaucracy, competing interests, and procedural delays make action a complex calculus.

Small-scale organisations and trade unions present another test. They naturally clash with the government, defending local interests and pressing demands. Aligning labour bodies, government authorities, and political leadership is rare. When it happens, it is fragile, and when demanded aggressively, the struggle only deepens, and tension becomes the measure of coordination, he said, elaborating on issues related to internal coordination with the party and the government.

“Amid all this, the Sangh stands apart. Its swayamsevaks work with honesty, clarity, and purpose. They do not operate with ideological labels; their work is rooted in dedication, service, and discipline. Authority, they show, is not about titles or power. It is about preparation, persistence, ethical commitment, and always acting in the national interest,” he said.
