Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is set to attend the 16th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) this August as the chief guest. The festival, which proudly celebrates Indian cinema on a global stage, will this year shine a special spotlight on Aamir’s outstanding body of work.A festival that celebrates Indian cinema’s diversityRunning from 14 to 24 August 2025, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne promises a vibrant mix of film screenings, panel discussions, masterclasses, and cultural events. It will bring together filmmakers, actors and fans from across the world to honour the magic of Indian cinema.Speaking about being invited as chief guest, Aamir told IANS, “I’m humbled and thrilled to be a part of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. It’s a festival that truly celebrates the spirit of Indian cinema in all its diversity and richness. I look forward to engaging with audiences, sharing some of my most cherished work, and being part of conversations that celebrate the power of film.”Festival Director Mitu Bhowmick Lange AM expressed her excitement, saying, “Aamir Khan is not just a cinematic legend but also someone whose work has always reflected sensitivity, depth, and a fearless commitment to storytelling. We are truly honoured to welcome him as our Chief Guest. His presence will undoubtedly elevate the festival experience for audiences and filmmakers alike.”A special look at Aamir’s remarkable journeyThis year’s edition will include a special retrospective on Aamir’s films, tracing his evolution as one of India’s finest actors and storytellers. From timeless classics to socially relevant dramas, the festival will revisit moments that have shaped his career.Mitu added, “He is an artist who has consistently used cinema as a force for social change, and his journey continues to inspire generations. His work on ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ is a beautiful example of inclusive storytelling — filled with empathy, joy, and honesty.”Spotlight on ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’As part of the festival’s programme, Aamir’s latest film ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ will also be screened.
