After Pakistan, Republican leader Buddy Carter nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize for brokering Israel-Iran truce
A Republican leader has now nominated Donald Trump for Nobel Peace Prize for brokering Israel-Iran truce.

A Republican lawmaker, Buddy Carter, wrote to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, nominating the US President for the Nobel Peace Prize for preventing the world’s largest “state sponsor of terrorism from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet”. “In recent weeks, the world stood on the precipice of a dangerous and potentially region-destabilizing war. Yet in the face of this crisis, President Trump took bold action to ultimately champion peace through strength and facilitate a ceasefire framework that brought hostilities to a halt,” the letter said, adding how President Trump brokered peace between Israel and Iran. “President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible. President Trump also took bold, decisive actions to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ensure that the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism remains incapable of acquiring a nuclear weapon,” Buddy Carter wrote. “His leadership at this moment exemplifies the very ideals that the Nobel Peace Prize seeks to recognize: the pursuit of peace, the prevention of war, and the advancement of international harmony,” Carter wrote.

Trump and the Nobel Peace Prize

Recently, Trump expressed his disappointment at not being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize yet. He said he brokered peace between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. “I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for this,” Trump said adding his other negotiations, including “stopping the War between Serbia and Kosovo” and “keeping Peace between Egypt and Ethiopia.”“No, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do, including Russia/Ukraine, and Israel/Iran, whatever those outcomes may be, but the people know, and that’s all that matters to me,” the president wrote.

Pakistan nominated Trump for Nobel

The Pakistan government recommended Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize “in recognition of his decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis”. It was announced shortly after Trump hosted Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir at the White House for lunch. The White House, in its statement, mentioned that Trump hosted Munir after Munir called for the president to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Ukraine lawmaker withdraws Trump Nobel nomination

In another development, a senior Ukrainian lawmaker who earlier nominated Trump for the Nobel withdrew the nomination. Oleksandr Merezhko, the head of Ukraine’s parliamentary foreign committee, told Newsweek on Tuesday he had “lost any sort of faith and belief” in Trump and his ability to secure a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv. Merezhko originally nominated Trump for the prize in November, but said he submitted his nomination withdrawal on Monday morning.
