Alaska summit done, Zelenskyy next: Ukraine President set for talks with Trump; focus on ending war
Putin, Trump in Alaska (L), and Zelenskyy (R)

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday said that Ukraine “reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum efforts to achieve peace.” His statement came after US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Alaska to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine.Zelenskyy made the remarks after a phone call with Trump, during which the US leader briefed him on the “main points” of his talks with Putin. The Ukrainian president added that Kyiv is prepared for constructive cooperation and backs a trilateral meeting between the US, Ukraine, and Russia. In a detailed post on X, Zelenskyy wrote: “Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to work with maximum effort to achieve peace. President Trump informed about his meeting with the Russian leader and the main points of their discussion. It is important that America’s strength has an impact on the development of the situation. We support President Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the USA, and Russia. Ukraine emphasizes that key issues can be discussed at the level of leaders, and a trilateral format is suitable for this.”Zelenskyy added in his post that he will meet Trump in Washington on Monday to discuss “ending the killing and the war.”He said, “On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington DC, to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war. I am grateful for the invitation. It is important that Europeans are involved at every stage to ensure reliable security guarantees together with America. We also discussed positive signals from the American side regarding participation in guaranteeing Ukraine’s security. We continue to coordinate our positions with all partners. I thank everyone who is helping.”The Alaska meeting between Trump and Putin lasted for nearly three hours on Friday, followed by a brief joint press appearance. No deal was announced, and neither leader took questions.Trump described the discussions as “very productive” and said that “a considerable number of agreements” had been reached. However, he reiterated his familiar stance, stating: “There’s no deal until there’s a deal.”
