A Los Angeles teenager tragically lost his life after being shot in what police suspect was a failed gang initiation. The 19 year old Jason Alexander Ramirez was killed after stopping to help his attacker, who had pretended to be in distress.
This horrific incident took place in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, around midnight on Wednesday when Jason had just dropped his sister off at work and was heading home, as per the Mirror US.
His brother, Angel Ramirez, spoke to local KTLA-TV and explained that four teenagers were seen near their property, ’lurking,’ as Jason was approaching his front door. Angel claimed the teens had mistaken Jason for a rival gang member and used a deceitful tactic to lure him into a deadly trap.
“One of the four suspects walked into the street and acted as if in distress to lure Jason to stop his vehicle, while the other three suspects hid behind cars. When Jason least expected it, while helpless and indefensible, he was ambushed in cold blood.”
As per local reports, Jason was found lifeless inside his vehicle at the intersection of Sixth Street and Grande Vista Avenue by police officers who arrived shortly after the incident. The Los Angeles Police Department later arrested a suspect, believed to be just 17 years old, though the other individuals involved have yet to be located.
Angel reflected on Jason’s kind-hearted nature, saying,“While trying to help someone who he thought was in need, he was unfairly attacked. Jason truly was a prime example of how one should love his fellow man. His actions that night showed the love in his heart, and he will be remembered for an eternity.”
The LAPD has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
