Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal, and said that once in power, the party would “drive out every single infiltrator” from the state.
While addressing a function of the Sashastra Seema Bal in in Araria district of Bihar’s Seemanchal region, which borders West Bengal.
“Elections are around the corner in West Bengal. I am confident that the BJP is going to win. Upon formation of the new government, we shall drive out every single infiltrator,” Shah said as quoted by news agency PTI.
The Union Minister described infiltration as a threat to national security and alleged that it disturbs the demographic balance of affected areas. He also claimed that infiltrators avail benefits such as ration and other government schemes meant for citizens.
He said that the process of identifying and removing infiltrators would begin in Bihar, particularly in the Seemanchal region. Shah asserted that “freedom from infiltrators doesn’t just mean removing their names from the voter list,” adding that the government is determined to implement a programme to remove “every single infiltrator from Indian soil.”

“The process of flushing out infiltrators will begin in Bihar, especially in the Seemanchal region. We had won the assembly polls here last year on this very issue. And, we got the mandate even though opponents were criticising our agenda,” he said.
“Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Assam are the most vulnerable to such demographic disturbance. The Narendra Modi government is committed to maintain demographic balance,” Shah added.
Shah ALSO paid tribute to freedom fighter and Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on his death anniversary. He described Savarkar as a fearless patriot whose writings inspired nationalist sentiment and credited him with popularising the view of the 1857 uprising as India’s First War of Independence.
“Whether it was the eradication of untouchability, the purification of languages, or the vision of pure nationalism, Veer Savarkar made immense efforts for all of these,” Shah said.
Assembly elections in West Bengal are due in the coming months, with political activity intensifying across the state and neighbouring regions.
