French fashion house Chanel was among the first luxury brands to recognise India’s market potential, opening its flagship boutique in New Delhi back in 2005. Nearly two decades later, Chanel launched its e-commerce platform in the country, an important step in deepening its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing luxury markets. And now, marking yet another milestone, Chanel has announced its first-ever Indian brand ambassador, reinforcing India’s rising stature on the global luxury map.

Taking centre stage is Bollywood’s rising star Ananya Panday, who has officially joined the ranks of Chanel’s exclusive global family. The maison described her as “the epitome of chic taste,” adding that she embodies a generation with evolving style sensibilities and fiercely independent identities.

In an official statement to Business of Fashion (BoF), the brand shared, “Ananya characterises a generation of evolving tastes and fiercely independent identities who navigate the world with their curiosities. Her values resonate with Chanel, making her the perfect choice to represent the house.”

For Ananya Panday, the partnership is equally meaningful. She described Chanel as a symbol of “personal liberation,” saying the brand empowers individuals to “boldly embrace their individuality with timeless elegance.”

Ananya recently made a splash at the Chanel Spring/Summer 2025 show in Paris, dressed in a look from the brand’s Cruise Collection. Her poised appearance drew praise from both Indian and international fashion media. It wasn’t her first brush with the French fashion giant either last year, she attended the same show with her younger sister, Rysa Panday, turning heads with their coordinated chic. Ananya had also previously donned a sophisticated black Chanel dress at the Gala de L’Opéra Paris, a highlight of Paris Fashion Week.

Already a formidable force in film, Ananya is steadily carving her space in the global fashion and beauty arena. In addition to her new role with Chanel, she is associated with several international labels – she is the face of Swarovski, Beats, Timex, and Lakmé. She also featured in Jimmy Choo’s India campaign, showcasing her growing influence as a fashion tastemaker.

With this high-profile appointment, Chanel not only reinforces its legacy of quiet luxury but also acknowledges the growing influence of Indian consumers and celebrities in shaping global trends. As Ananya Panday continues to balance cinematic acclaim with fashion cred, one thing is clear: she’s just getting started.
